The most popular foreign currency in Kyrgyzstan, the US dollar, continues to strengthen its position. At the moment, Bishkek exchange offices are selling it at 66.5 soms and buying it at 65.4 soms. Thus, the historical maximum has been reached again.

Recall that the sharp jump in the dollar exchange rate in Kyrgyzstan was caused by the collapse of the tenge in Kazakhstan due to the abolition of the currency corridor and the transition to a freely floating exchange rate. As a result, the Kazakh currency fell by 35% against the dollar.

The Kyrgyz currency market could not help but react to the collapse of the tenge. At present, the capital's exchange offices are buying tenge for 0.245 som and selling for 0.27 som. Just a few days earlier, the purchase rate was 0.324 som, and the sale rate was 0.327 som.

The ruble also continues to lose ground, with exchange offices buying it for 0.95 som and selling it for 0.97 som.

But the euro rate is growing. The purchase rate at exchange offices is 71.5 som, and the sale rate is 73 som.

The National Bank has not yet given a clear explanation of what is happening. As the Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Nurbek Zhenish stated the day before, on August 20, there are no internal reasons for the depreciation of the som against the dollar in the country: importers are not showing increased demand for dollars, the banking system and exchange bureaus have a sufficient volume of foreign currency. Yesterday, the National Bank decided not to intervene on the currency market.

The situation was similarly commented on by the Chairman of the Association of Exchange Bureaus "Alliance" Baktybek Choibekov. Despite this, the dollar exchange rate continues to grow almost hourly for unknown reasons.
